Frequently asked questions

Does Thailand require a rabies titer test for dogs?

No. The antibody test is listed as optional. A rabies vaccine given at least 21 days before departure is required.

Is there pet quarantine in Thailand?

Healthy pets with complete papers are normally released after inspection at the airport, but a quarantine officer can detain a pet, and the DLD rules allow quarantine of at least 30 days at the owner's cost.

How far ahead should I apply for the Thai import permit?

Between 7 and 60 days before departure. Processing takes 5 to 7 Thai business days and the permit is valid for 60 days, so applying about 30 days ahead is safest.

Can I bring my dog to Phuket or Chiang Mai directly?

Yes. Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui and Krabi have animal quarantine stations, as do both Bangkok airports. Email the permit form to the station at the airport where you land.
